Migrating season...

Its migrating season. Do you have your bird feeder up?... My husband and I have really gotten into bird watching this year, and we are really enjoying watching and learning about all different types of birds. This one here is the summer tanager...
I know this is some type of warbler, but I am calling him the Amish warbler.... doesn't he look Amish?
These pictures were taken behind the South Padre Island convention center ..There were so many, many professional photographers there. I felt like a weenie with my camera . This is the rose breasted grosbeak.
This is my very favorite!  I actually shook while taking this picture, I thought he would fly off. I was waiting and waiting for this Painted bunting to come fly by, and then BAM he just came and perched on this tree long enough for me to take his picture..
Then he turned... What a show off!!
I fell in love with this Indigo bunting! He is just a really patient kinda bird he let me take lots of shots of him. maybe he was tired after all he has had a long journey.

Here are more...
Hows that for just one day of bird watching?

  1. The amount of color you saw in just one day is amazing! I filled my feeder again this morning, but I don't expect to see so much color on a regular basis.

  9. I love bird watching and my house in NC was perfect for that! And do not feel bad about your "weenie" camera because you took beautiful photos. You know what I can tell from them? That you like bird watching a lot. What a treat to be able to see these beautiful creatures!

  10. Wow! Great shots! We are enjoying a pair of doves that have decided to nest outside our bedroom windows--where I can see and photograph them coming and going from their nest.
Our orchard orioles have also returned, and the other day a wood thrush was chasing my chickens!

  12. My goodness, what would happen if you had a big camera? These are gorgeous! Marissa, we had some of the rose breasted grosbeaks that came through a couple of weeks ago and spent 3 days at our feeders. On their way north? My husband got a few pictures of them. So beautiful. But we've never had any of the others you showed. What a privilege to see them and capture them on your camera. What beauty!

  13. Hi my friend, I'm a bit jealous of all the birds you have in your area. I love them! Here I used to put out feeders for the finches, juncos and sparrows but we had Grackles come in and kill dozens of birds one summer. I'm talking walking out and seeing 10-12 bird carcasses on the lawn, split open without heads and I said forget it. I would rather save their lives by not feeding them. We do get Robins in the yard and I like those. We've also had some finches nest on our front porch, which was fun but I've removed the wreathe they use.
Thanks for sharing-keep the photos coming please.
    Hugs, Noreen

  16. Holy cow! Send them this way. We don't have anything that colorful here! So many pretty colors, too. Most of our birds are brown and/or black. I love our indigo bunting. We have canaries here, too, but they are fast in and out, so no photos of them yet! Great photos!
Happy bird watching. Hope you were not in the areas of last nights storms.

  17. Your Amish bird is cracking me up! I have a cardinal that runs around my backyard, but I can not for the life of me get a good photo of him. He won't sit still and if he does, he's always behind a limb.

  19. I love bird-watching. Wish we had chickadees here. Every once in a while I'll see one, but certainly not as many as I had when I lived in Wisconsin. They'd come to the feeder while I was filling it and they'd eat right from my hand. Miss that!

  22. I rarely write responses, however i did some searching and wound up here "Migrating season...".
And I actually do have a few questions for you
if it's allright. Is it simply me or does it give the impression like some of these remarks look as if they are left by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are writing at additional online social sites, I'd like to
keep up with anything fresh you have to post. Could you
make a list of all of your communal sites like your

  26. for the record...I think I have found someone who gets as excited about birds as I do...what beauty! I remember the scarlet tanager from the movie The Scarlet Letter...it was such an interesting scene where the red bird came and sat at the end of her tub and then flew away
